MANILA, Philippines — Thousands of Filipino commuters trooped to the office of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) yesterday demanding the board’s immediate modernization, citing its failure to adapt to modern times.
Members of the Philippine Association of Commuters Yearning for Uber’s Decisive & Efficient Legalization and Grab’s Rapid Accreditation (PACYUDELGRA) led by Don Darion expressed their concern that commuter’s welfare and voices are falling on deaf ears due to the LTFRB’s inability to appreciate a good thing.
“Why deny commuters safe and reliable services like Grab and Uber and force them to take taxis which can be best described with any adjectives that are the opposite safe and reliable,” said Darion.
“That is why we think it is now the right time to push for the long overdue LTFRB Modernization Program,” he added. “Tandaan po ninyo ang inyong stakeholders ay ang riding public. Hindi kayo nandiyan para lang sa sarili niyo, yung mananakay deserve a safe and dependable type of transportation.”
Darion said the modernization program aims to introduce reliable, trustworthy and commuter-friendly board members that will look after the welfare of the riding public and not that of taxi operators, who for the life of them, can’t seem to ensure a hassle-free ride let alone police their own ranks.
He added there are members of the LTFRB who cannot see the “bigger picture,” and at the same time “insisting with what they want.”
“Mayroon pa rin LTFRB board members, pero ang tanong ho ay kung anong klaseng board member ang nilalagay nila dyan. All that PACYUDELGRA wants are dependable, reliable, and trustworthy and friendly sa commuters,” Darion said.
Under the modernization program, the LTFRB will replace board members who still consider drivers with incapacitating spray bottles or katanas as safe, as well as those who consider hailing and haggling with multiple taxi drivers to reach your destination instead of pressing a ‘book’ button efficient. .
“Pahirapan na ngang sumakay, tapos magiinarte pa yung mga taxi drivers na kesyo malayo, dagdagan, tapos nanakawan or babastusin ka lang sa huli?” Darion quipped.
“May programa ang DOTr na figuratively pupukpukin yung mga ulo nila para mag come to their senses sila, kasi we need to take them off the board,” he added. “Hopefully, mapalitan sila with board members na talagang alam ang hirap na pinagdadaanan ng mga commuters araw-araw.”
