MANILA, Philippines — The camp of Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is grateful to the Supreme Court after it decided with finality that the former president may no longer wear her neck brace, especially in public.
Arroyo’s camp thanked the high court for upholding its decision, saying the ruling should “put an end to this neck brace nonsense.”
“We thank the Supreme Court for putting an end to this. PGMA was unfettered way back in July of last year when the SC allowed her to remove the neck brace,” Atty. Lawrence Araico, the former president’s legal counsel said.
The High Court on Tuesday denied the Ombudsman’s motion due to the public already seeing her sans the medical device.
Arroyo has been going out in public without her neck brace as early as July of last year.
The Supreme Court decision also grants Arroyo permission to now show visible signs of happiness.
“The court noted that its decision had automatically granted Arroyo the liberty to smile as often as she wants,” Teodore The, the high court’s spokesman said.
“As we all know, it takes fewer muscles to smile than it does to frown,” he added. “With this, Mrs. Arroyo should now be visibly more healthy, radiant and outspoken immediately.”
