BANGKOK, Thailand — Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo on Wednesday said President Rodrigo Duterte’s remarks about China’s activity in Benham Rise is making it easier to sell the Philippines. Especially to China.
In a press conference held in Bangkok, Teo said that the president should continue his positive messaging towards the Chinese, which in turn emboldens the Asian Superpower to assert its dominance in the region more.
‘Yung mga statements na ganoon, napapabilis kaming ibenta ang Pilipinas, so I hope kung puwede, i-level up pa ng ating mahal na pangulo,” Teo said.
Teo was reacting to Duterte’s statements where he was quoted as saying that the Philippines “cannot stop China from doing its thing,” during his speech before departing for his Myanmar visit.
Teo also said that she has “great admiration” for the President, and such statements will definitely have a positive affect on Chinese attitude and Chinese tourist numbers in the Philippines.
“Help us sell the Philippines. Help us because you know, it’s very difficult for me to sell the Philippines especially if ang daming nakikialam, gaya ni Justice Carpio,” she said.
She also reiterated that she will always give her personal assurance to Chinese tourists about their safety in the Philippines.
