MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) mascot “PO1 Bato” announced today his resignation from the force, saying that doing so might save PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa from further embarrassment after damning details emerged that PNP officers were involved in the kidnapping and murder of Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo.
A ranking police official privy to the details of the case said Jee’s car, a black Ford Explorer where the killing took place, was parked just outside the building of the PNP’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Group (AIDG) adjacent to that of the PNP’s Public Information Office and Police Community Relations Group offices.

PO1 Bato’s resignation came after House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez urged Dela Rosa to resign to save President Duterte “from further embarrassment and restore respect.”
The mascot added that his resignation will come as a blessing as he is now free to enjoy a private life.
Meanwhile, the puppet version of PNP chief Ronald dela Rosa has yet to announce whether or not he will also resign.
