MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III along with budget secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad were seen with mysterious rings of light above their heads during a cabinet meeting held earlier this morning at Malacañang.
The ring of light, which palace insiders believed to be a halo, reportedly first appeared last Tuesday, just after the Supreme Court declared parts of the Disbursement Allocation Program (DAP) unconstitutional; and said that Malacañang could be held liable unless it can prove that it was implemented in “good faith.”
“According to the president, bigla na lang daw itong lumitaw sa ibabaw ng kanyang ulo,” said presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda. “PSG personnel were alarmed at first, fearing it was a form of security breach, but Aquino told them to calm down.”
He added, “The president immediately called up every cabinet secretary to ask whether they got the same halo as his, but to his delight, not everyone got it.”
Only Abad, who announced last week that he was suffering from stage 5 amnesia, confirmed to the president about having the same “corona” present above his head.
“He was angry and crying at the same time when the president called,” recalled Lacierda. “He was still grasping the condition that he was in and at the same time, was furious as to how this administration can usurp Congress’ power of the purse.”
Abad who was going through an emotional roller coaster at that time due to the SC decision, amnesia and the emergence of a halo above his head, reportedly exclaimed to the president: “Good luck to the guys responsible for this mess to prove it was done in good faith! How they wish they had these halos that we have.”
According to the same palace insider, a light bulb also immediately appeared above the head of the president before hanging up the phone.
Oxford Dictionaries defines halo as a circle of light shown around or above the head of a saint or holy person to represent their holiness.
The two are reportedly taking it in stride, not minding the unusual aura of truthfulness and good faith floating above their heads as they go about their daily routines.
