Boxer/Politician Finding More Ways to Avoid Work He Was Elected to Do

MANILA, Philippines — Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao announced today that aside from becoming the playing coach for PBA expansion team, KIA Motors; the international boxing icon is also looking for more ways to avoid work that he was elected to do.

“Yes, maglalaro ako sa PBA sa October. Playing coach ako (Yes, I’ll play in the PBA this October. I’ll be a playing-coach), the eight-division world boxing champion told Spin.ph.

Pero maliban sa pagiging boksingero, basketball player, TV host, singer at evangelist, naghahanap pa ako ng ibang mapagkakalibangan tulad ng cross stitching, multi-level marketing, at programming,” said Pacquiao.

Manny PacquiaoWhen asked if he has plans to attend sessions in the House of Representatives anytime soon, the boxing icon was unsure, citing a busy schedule that involves other “unrelated to lawmaking tasks” such as playing DOTA, learning to fly an airplane, possibly entering the PBB house or inflating the kiddie pool back home.

Kakatapos lang po ng laban ko kay Bradley, at nais ko po sanang magpahinga para sa susunod kong laban,” he added, citing other items in his laundry-list of things to do, such as cleaning the cars, learning to speak Japanese, watching videos of immigration official mauling a Chinese national and maybe shoot a few t.v. commercials.

Others welcomed Manny’s decision to play in the country’s premier  professional basketball league, saying that it’s a great chance for him to prove his versatile skills.

Baka malampasan nya ang mga achievements ng dating idol ko na si Robert “Big J” Jaworski!” said Vincente Villamor, a die-hard basketball fan.

Not everyone are as enthusiastic as Villamor, with some saying that Pacquiao should instead serve his constituents in Sarangani and start crafting laws.

When asked, Sarangani resident Camilo Patua hit the lawmaker’s attendance record, saying, “Anong kwenta ng pagiging ‘boxing champion’, ‘singing host’ at ‘playing coach’ nya kung pagiging ‘working congressman‘ nga eh hindi nya magawa!?

  1. Sapul na sapul si Manny dito. Siguro pangarap niya talagang maglaro sa Pro-league ng basketball at ginawa niya lang stepping stone ang Boksing at pagiging Congressman. Baka mapasama pa siya sa FIBA niyan.

  2. spot on. since wala naman talaga sya alam sa pulitika, time to find another excuse. gasgas na raw kasi yung kelangan nya magpahinga after ng mahabang training at nung actual fight.

  3. I am a great fan of Manny Pacquiao as A BOXER, not because for the simple reason that he’s a fellow Filipino, but because he’s a great boxer. Given the choice between Manny and Mayweather; given the choice between Manny and any boxer really – I’d choose Manny. Everytime.

Having said that, let me say that I’m so disapointed in Manny being an incumbent congressman in this country. But I am most disappointed in Filipinos who voted for him in office. We don’t deserve him, or anybody that relied solely on popularity, fame, and success (success in a different field altogether). We deserve someone who is intelligent, that has the best interest of his constituents at heart, and especialy someone who is not greedy.

I feel like my view is not shared by many Filipinos who are so overwhelmingly awed by MP, almost like a hero-worship or something. And that, for me is troubling. Why do many Filipinos bask in the limelight of Manny’s success, instead of working their a$$ of so they could be successful themselves?
