MANILA, Philippines — Financially-battered Filipino delinquent taxpayers celebrated a much-needed victory after national boxing hero Manny Pacquiao squared-off with Kim Henares in a verbal tussle dedicated to victims of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
For a brief moment in the devastated lives of delinquent taxpayers, those who sold their homes, their cars and even their precious gadgets in the bureau’s crackdown for them to pay the correct taxes; forgot their misery as they watched a free, live broadcast of Pacquiao’s tirade over Henares on national TV.
“Inihabla po ako ng BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) ng P2.2-billion tax case na wala pong basehan,” Pacquiao said in a press briefing Tuesday.
.“Huwag po sana akong i-single out at personalin dahil hindi po ako magnanakaw,” Pacquiao added, noting he “worked hard” to earn his assets.

BIR has left almost a third of the country’s taxpayers either lacking in funds, under debt or bankrupt after its rampage through the entire Philippines.
The verbal clash was broadcast in different public and private areas in the country to lift the spirits of misinformed taxpayers who thinks it was unfair for the boxer to be treated that way.
“Para matabunan ‘yung victory na nakuha natin… May mga tao na ayaw tayong maging masaya,” he said in a report aired on “24 Oras” Thursday evening..Pacquiao also hinted politics may be behind the tax case against him. “Ang sabi ng tao, huwag isipin ang pulitika.. Alam kong pulitika din ito,” he said..(from GMA News)
