Local Media Scrambles to Find Other Sources of Pinoy Pride After Last Fil-Am in American Idol Gets Booted Out

MANILA, Philippines — Newsroom of all major television networks are panicking and scrambling, looking for other news tidbit that would generate pride for the Filipinos after the last contestant with Filipino heritage failed to make it to the final round of the current season of American Idol.

The American Idol Top 10 have been revealed — and Filipino-American Adriana Latonio is not in it.

On March 8, the 90-minute AI episode announced to a tense and excited audience the names of the lucky 10 who are moving on to the finals. (from Rappler)

Mike Enrickets, news anchor for an evening news program said that he would miss reporting the progress of a ‘Fil-Am’ in the reality-based talent search;  which has become a routine for him every year.

Sanay ang Pilipinong marinig sa balita na ang isang kababayan natin ay nagtatagumpay sa patimpalak sa Amerika (Filipinos are fond of hearing in the news that their own blood is doing well in a contest in America).”

Wala silang paki sa local talent search, hindi naman kasi dinadalaw ng Presidente and winner ng Starstruck diba (They don’t care about local talent search, because the president doesn’t bother to visit the winner of Starstruck, right) ?!” added Enrickets sarcastically.

Right now, their research department is hard at work trying to find new sources of pride for the Filipino people, after Pacquaio and Lolong are no longer eligible or newsworthy to the masses.

“We have found a Filipino working in the Bay Area who sweeps the the toenails of Hollywood celebrities,” revealed a reporter, who refrained from divulging further details to avoid his scoop from being stolen by the rival network.

But the rival network is also hard at work looking for ‘Pinoy Pride’ abroad where they have not one, but two sources that has yet to be revealed.

When asked why the pride needs to be from abroad, the reporter said that because “it’s what sells.”

In related news that is sure to deal a serious blow to the pride of Filipinos everywhere, season 12 judges Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj cancelled their plans to hold a concert here in Manila after no Filipinos made it to the finals, unlike Season 11 judges Jennifer Lopez’s successful concert & the recently announced Aerosmith concert.

In the meantime, local media outlets will continue to air entertainment news with headlines such as, “Alden Richards bumili ng bagong SUV” or “Kathyrn Bernardo, kinilig sa titig ni Daniel Padilla.

Stay tuned for more.
