De Lima Inspired by New Spider-Man Movie. Accepts CJ Nomination.

MANILA, Philippines — Weeks after being nominated, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima has finally accepted her nomination for the Chief Justice post.

In a press statement sent to SWN, the Justice Secretary said that “what the judiciary needs is an effective and trusted leader. That, to me, is the call of the times.” She added that “deeper reflection and further consultations with my family and close confidants, and amidst my initial hesitance and apprehensions, I now feel that I will be up to the challenge and will now take on the challenge.”

De Lima also revealed that she recently had a DVD marathon of sorts to gather inspirations, and to feel what it would be like if ever she did get the job.
.
She admitted watching courtroom drama movies such as Kramer VS. Kramer, In the Name of the Father, A Time to Kill, Philadelphia and classics such as Inherit the Wind and To Kill a Mockingbird. When asked if the movie A Few Good Men was on her list, she refused to confirm nor deny, saying only that she was not a fan of Tom Cruise, but SWN was adamant for her answer.

De Lima: You want answers?
So, What’s News: I think I’m entitled to them.
De Lima: You want answers?
SWN: I want the truth!
De Lima: You can’t handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You?

After composing herself, this reporter suggested that she watch some lighter courtroom movies such as Liar Liar, Jury Duty and both Legally Blonde movies.

“Bend and snap!” said this reporter.
.
De Lima also said that the courtroom drama movies she watched tends to be sappy, hence the need to watch Judge Dredd now and then to get the adrenaline pumping.
.
Surprisingly, what really inspired her to accept the nomination was not in the form of DVDs but on the latest theatrical offering, The Amazing Spider-Man. She said she went to the movies alone last Friday to have fun. With a bag of popcorn and a cup of iced-tea in hand, De Lima wore the 3D glasses provided and expected only to get entertained.
 .
What she wasn’t anticipating was getting inspiration from a few lines from the movie.

“When Dr. Connors said the line ‘ready to play God?’ it sent chills down my spine,” admitted De Lima.

But what made her really come to the conclusion to accept the nomination was the overarching theme of the whole movie:  “With great power comes great responsibility.”

“The President is like my Uncle Ben,” confessed De Lima. “It just recently dawned on me the powers I can wield. Uncle Ben told me that defying the Supreme Court TRO before was like getting bitten by a radioactive spider: It made me feel powerful, agile and most importantly, sticky.”

Justice Secretary Leila De Lima is now poised to be the Big Winner in the upcoming PBB: Chief Justice Edition, airing soon on ABS-CBN.
