MANILA, Philippines — A four year deal made by the Azkals and the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) with ABS-CBN Sports last month proves to be useful, even away from the sport; as proven by the new projects that will be undertaken by the two players facing a sexual harassment complaint filed by Former Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Cristy Ramos.
The complaint, filed with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Disciplinary Committee by the former First Daughter, accuses Lexton Moy and Angel Guirado in two separate instances of sexual harassment and disrespect just before the Azkals’ game against the Malayan Tiger last week, where she served as a match commissioner.
“As I called the players individually so that we could check their accreditation cards and kits, Philippine player LEXTON MOY (no. 25) stood by my right side and said in a loud voice “Must be a B cup,” to which the players laughed loudly. As I was the only female in the room, he was apparently referring to my bra size,” said Ramos in the letter addressed to AFC Disciplinary Chair Lim Kia Tong.
“Additionally when I checked Philippine player ANGEL GUIRADO (no. 12) he stood in front of me purposely just wearing his briefs and made no attempts to wear shorts or cover his underwear. Again, the players loudly laughed while I was checking this player,” she added. (from ABS-CBN News)
Due to pressure from various influential groups, Azkals team manager Dan Palami has decided to suspend both players and bar them from participating in team activities until further notice. The 2 players will await the ruling of the AFC Disciplinary Committee.
“Whatever the ruling is, the aggrieved party can appeal their case to the appeals committee. If they are not satisfied, they may bring their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sports,” explained the PFF chief.
In an interview, Gabby Lopez, Chairman and CEO of ABS-CBN, said that they will continue to support and glorify the team in spite of the roadblock the team is facing. “Our support for the Azkals does not end on a single hump on the road,” said Lopez.
“In the meantime, as a way to pass the time before the ruling,” added Lopez, “Guirado and Moy would make appearances in various Kapamilya shows, like being guests in Pinoy Big Brother, as well as being part of Budoy’s finale.”
The two players has also inked a 10 year exclusive deal with the network, officially making them a Kapamilya. They will star in their own shows respectively during the duration of their suspension, or if they plan to retire early. Angel Guirado will star in spin-off to the drama series Angelito: Batang Ama entitled Anguirado: Asong Manyakis in the prime time slot. Star Magic is currently looking for a love interest for Guirado, as Phil Younghusband already has Angel Locsin. An Angel – Angel loveteam would’ve been nice.
As for Lexton Moy, he will air an educational program entitled Matangkulitiin, similar in format to Kim Atienza’s Matanglawin during weekends. He will teach viewers how to accurately identify the cup sizes of female’s undergarments without laughing and with a straight face.
Azkal players can rest easy knowing that the showbiz spotlight is not only on Phil but also to other deserving players, as evidenced by these new “projects” of their teammates. At the end of the day, what is a sport, without a showbiz touch and a support by a big network, nay, the country, to make your players feel like they can do anything?
