Filming of Bourne Legacy Around Metro Manila Cancelled Due to MMDA Cleanup

MANILA, Philippines — Universal Pictures has just announced that it has cancelled the planned filming of the fourth Bourne movie around Metro Manila.

In a press statement, the production company expressed its disappointment with the cleanup of selected shooting locations that the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) bared the other day during an interview.

In the interview, MMDA Chairman Francisco Tolentino said “I think they selected Pasay Taft Rotonda. Magulo talaga ang area. So it’s about time that we redo the area because it will be shown worldwide. So it’s an eye-opener for us na ayusin namin ang Pasay-Taft Rotonda.”

Filming locations included Navotas Fishport, Intramuros, San Andres Market, Pasay Taft Rotonda, Marikina City Market, Ramon Magsaysay Blvd., and others. Director Tony Gilroy said that they specifically chose these locations around the Philippines due to its filthiness, and cleaning them up will be in violation of their artistic freedom and detracts the ambiance that the movie is aiming for.

“They could’ve chosen  another country if they wanted a clean environment to shoot at,” said an anonymous insider from the production company.

Sensing the irony to what they did, MMDA would return all the garbage and litter that they have accumulated to its original location where they were found; to try and change the mind of and appease Director Gilroy. “Baka dagdagan pa namin yung kalat dun sa mga lugar kung gusto nila, para maengganyo ulit (We might even add more trash to the area if they want, so that they would be more enticed),” said Tolentino.

This development would be in stark contrast to what happened to actress Claire Danes, who shot a movie here in the Philippines, sometime around year 1998. She was so appalled by her stay in our country that in an interview with Vogue Magazine, she described Manila as a “ghastly and weird city.”

In another interview, this time with Premiere Magazine, she stated “The place just f@%king smelled of cockroaches. There’s no sewage system in Manila, and people have nothing there. People with, like, no arms, no legs, no eyes, no teeth. We shot in a real hospital, so takes would be interrupted by wailing women — like ‘Cut! Screaming person.’ Rats were everywhere.

The government did not improve the sewage system despite the comments made by Danes, as evidenced by floods across the city throughout the years. Instead, the City Council declared the actress Persona Non Grata and banned all her movies from being shown.

Then President Joseph Estrada even said that “She should not be allowed to come here. She should not even be allowed to set foot her.”

Looking back, I’m pretty sure that I saw Terminator 3 and Stardust, movies where Danes played a part; being shown in movie theaters across the city at that time.

The Bourne Legacy is a story centered on a new CIA operative in the universe based on Robert Ludlum’s novels. It stars Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross alongside Ed Norton and Rachel Weisz.

Yes, keep portraying countries like Philippines and India the way Westerners have always viewed them. Don’t show the improved side of Manila at all… since who wants to see that right?

“MMDA would return all the garbage and litter that they have accumulated to it’s original location where they were found; to try and change the mind of and appease Director Gilroy…”

    Shameless MMDA

  3. Why would anyone get upset at the truth? Has any of you ever seen a Bourne movie? It’s perfect for the Philippines. Chaotic, smelly, dirty, messy and filthy.. exactly the kind of places Bourne thrives in. I can’t wait for this movie although one wonders how good it’ll be since Damon opted out of the movie already..

  4. “MMDA would return all the garbage and litter that they have accumulated to it’s original location where they were found”, haha…. dito ako natawa bigla.

good work dude, keep it up.

    ma-share nga, haha.

  5. It’s funny how pinoys get mad when foreigners tell the truth about the Philippines.

    The truth hurts, don’t it?

If you don’t want other people to say bad things about the mess in your front lawn, clean in it up otherwise shut your pie holes.

  6. di totoo tong blog na to… magising nga kayo,,, wag masyado maniniwala sa mga nababasa sa internet… it’s satire… google it…😡

  7. Haha. Sana they shoot Hollywood films all over the country, so the government’d be pressured to clean every single place and the citizens will be pressured not to throw trash just about everywhere.

  8. To the Administrator,

We have issued a previous warning about selecting blog material for your website, and you have continually ingored this ordinance. According to the revised penal code 1801, any website issuing misleading or defamatory information that would jeopardize public and national safety is subject for intrinsic review by the NBI cyber division. Please consider this as your last warning.

    • If this is indeed the real NBI, then I pity your institution for not knowing what satire is. It is not misleading and defamatory in the first place because this website writers satirical and fictional articles. Check the About Me page.

It is the people’s fault for being misled. If only they would take the time to research on what the entire website is instead of believing what they had just read on a certain webpage.

    • Wow ang galing nman ng FBI na yan… maglilink nlng mali pa…nbi/gov.ph???

Ha! Minsan nakakahiya rin ang kapwa Filipino hindi marunong makaintindi ng satire…Tignan niu maya maya may maooffend sa comment ko na offensive, at ittatake out of context :))

Good Job for the bloggers😀 nakakatawa ung storya ahahaha

    • “ordinance?” taga NBI ka ba talaga? E hindi mo alam paggamit ng ordinance!

Penal Code 1801? Ano yan, Marvel Comics?

  9. EXCUSE ME. HINDI MADUMI ANG MARKINA CITY MARKET. OUR PALENGKE IS CLEAN. I LOVE GOING THERE, CHECK YOUR FACTS STRIAGHT. PLEASE LANG.

    • Foreigners, I wonder why they keep on visiting Philippines if they level it as filthy and something. What a Hippocrates! You take an advantage to what we give and you repay through this? You are really something. Remember this, this Philippines that you are putting down, you will look it up someday. And let’s see what will happen to your own countries as this world crisis is happening. Good luck! Good riddance!

      • The question is when? I think the young generation of the 80’s and 90’s also mentioned a similar statement and look what happened to the Philippines now. It’s worse than with Ramos’s administration. Can we please help each other out and improve the Philippines so that we can have the gall to say it to their faces?

  10. AYALA Avenue is included in the list… The author of this editorial has ommitted Ayala Avenue just for his/her own sake. To make us disappoint.
