MILF: Peace Talks? We Thought It Was Piece Talks.

MANILA, Philippines — There seems to be confusion and misunderstanding with regards to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the agreement that it has with the government, as revealed by the government peace panel tasked with the beleaguered peace talks.

This after the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) last night, laid to rest  with full military honors the 19 soldiers who were killed in a bloody clash  between the government and the secessionist group MILF at Al-Barka town in Basilan.

Autopsies done on the soldiers revealed that some of them were killed via gunshot wounds to their bodies while others were chopped to pieces by the rebel group. The AFP the other day, has written a formal complaint and a full incident report against the MILF to the Peace Panel headed by Secretary Teresita Quintos Deles and Peace Panel Chair Marvic Leonen.

“We have received a reply from the MILF and there seems to be a confusion and misunderstanding on what it is we are exactly doing,” said Deles. “It would seem that they thought all along that it was about piece negotiations. So that explains why they chopped-up some of the soldiers in the first place.”

The peace panel have relayed this information to Malacañang and said that the President was in high spirits upon hearing this development. He was reportedly heard saying “…mabuti nalang at hindi tayo nag all-out war. Eh simpleng hindi pagkakaintindihan lang pala at maaayos din ito. (…its good that we didn’t engage in an all-out war. It was just a simple misunderstanding and we could remedy this.)”

Marvic Leonen shows to the media how big the word, PEACE would be printed on the new tarpaulins.

The government has repeatedly denied the possibility of an all-out war with the rebels despite the prodding and persuasion of certain politicians. Certain groups are saying that the President’s action or the lack thereof, shows weakness in his leadership as the commander in chief of the country’s military force.

The government plans to return to the negotiating table, equipped with newly printed documents. This time, the word “peace” would be in big, bold letters according to the secretary of Marvic Leonen. “We would also be printing new tarpaulins that would replaced the old ones with the same bold letters to avoid future misunderstanding.”

Reports that the Department of Education (DEPED) will provide dictionaries to the MILF on the resumption of talks, with the definition of the word PEACE bookmarked are still being verified at the time of this posting.
